What Actually Goes Wrong
and What Pays.
Eight scenarios drawn from documented enforcement actions, OSHA citations and court records. Not invented examples, and not every one of them is insurable.
We shop your septic business with carriers like
The eight scenarios
Each one documented from a primary government source where a source exists, and written from the rules where we judged naming a business would be unfair.
The Septic Cleaning Insurance Group Policy Review
We read the whole policy
Before we quote anything we read what you already have, cover to cover, and tell you plainly what it does and does not do.
We map your actual operation
Pumping, installation, hauling, grease trap, portable units: each one underwrites differently. We classify what you really do, not a generic contractor code.
We shop carriers who understand septic risk
Standard markets when they fit, specialty and E&S markets when they do not. If a carrier does not understand pollution exposure, we do not use them.
We explain the quote in plain language
You get the number, the limits, the exclusions that matter, and the reasoning. No pass-through, no blind binding.
Why we publish these
Because coverage arguments happen after the loss
And by then the endorsements on your policy are fixed. Reading a scenario while you can still change something is worth more than reading it afterwards.
Because some of the worst outcomes are uninsurable
A quarter of a million in OSHA penalties, a revoked licence, a criminal conviction. No policy answers any of those, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
Because the pattern repeats
Rescuer-becomes-victim in confined spaces. Spoil piled at the trench edge. One driver’s shortcut on disposal. These recur in the published record.
Because it is how we underwrite
We ask which of these is realistic for your operation, then check whether the policy that would have to respond is actually endorsed for it.
Underwriters who’ve actually walked a septic job site
Septic Cleaning Insurance Group
We built this agency around one gap we kept seeing: big-box commercial insurers write septic contractor policies the same way they write policies for any other trade, missing the environmental and pollution exposure that actually matters in this business. Our team goes deep on septic-specific risk before recommending coverage, maintains relationships with carriers who understand pumping, installation, and disposal operations specifically, and keeps specialty and E&S markets in reserve for the accounts standard carriers will not touch.
Straight answers, no insurance-speak
Yes, where we name one. Each named matter comes from a primary government source: an OSHA news release, a Department of Justice release, or a state agency order, and only where the matter is closed. Where we judged that naming a business would be unfair because litigation is pending or fault is genuinely contested, we wrote the page from the rules instead and said so on it.
Because owners assume it does. Fines, penalties and deliberate acts are uninsurable everywhere, and a revoked licence is not an insured peril. Those are among the most serious outcomes in this trade and leaving them out would give a false picture.
It depends on what you actually do. A pumping route has a different risk profile from an installation business, which is different again from a portable sanitation operation. That is what the operations pages are for.
Meaningfully, yes, and more than most owners expect. Loss history drives your experience modifier on workers compensation and affects appetite on every other line.
Secure the scene and the people first. Then notify us promptly, because late notice is itself a coverage defence, and preserve the documentation while it is fresh: photos, tickets, disposal receipts, monitor readings.
Same day. Every time. That is an operating rule here, not a marketing promise.
